Embark Studios, the creator of the highly popular ARC Raiders extraction shooter game, has announced that multiple new maps will be introduced later this year.
Currently, ARC Raiders features five main maps, each with its own distinct theme and loot for players to explore. These maps unlock based on gameplay progression, with dedicated players likely having access to all five by now.
The dynamic gameplay of ARC Raiders ensures that no two matches on a map are alike, offering a diverse range of scenarios involving encounters with enemy ARC robots or fellow loot scavengers. Anticipating the need for ongoing content updates, players have eagerly awaited new maps, a demand that Embark Studios is keen to meet.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Virgil Watkins, the design lead for ARC Raiders, confirmed plans for multiple map releases this year, catering to various gameplay styles with sizes ranging from smaller layouts to grander expanses.
While the game’s largest play space is currently the Spaceport at approximately 1.6 x 1.4km, other maps feel expansive due to their densely packed interiors. As the game evolves, players can expect a mix of play environments, potentially featuring diverse weather events for added excitement.
The recent major update in December introduced Cold Snap to ARC Raiders, incorporating a Frostbite mechanic that poses challenges during snow storms, along with a Goalie Raider Deck. Despite this update lacking new maps, the game remains popular, attracting a daily player base of 350,000 and showing no signs of decline.
Although the timing of the new map releases remains undisclosed, player engagement remains strong. With a new extraction game, Bungie’s Marathon, on the horizon, the competition is heating up in the genre. It will be interesting to see how Embark Studios responds to maintain the competitiveness of ARC Raiders.
