A deadly missile strike attributed to Russia claimed the lives of 10 individuals in a village located in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, as reported by Ukrainian authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack that targeted a bustling area in Pechenihy, Kharkiv region, emphasizing the destruction caused to essential facilities surrounded by residential structures.
Footage shared by Zelenskyy showcased the aftermath of the assault, depicting a ravaged building, vehicles engulfed in flames, and emergency personnel aiding the injured. Zelenskyy vowed a response to the Russian strike, with 17 additional individuals sustaining injuries, according to Oleh Syniehubov, the governor of the affected region.
Russia has not issued a public statement regarding the incident. The assault resulted in severe damage to private residences, a café, a post office, a store, and several vehicles in the village, Syniehubov disclosed. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine indicated that Russia deployed two Banderol cruise missiles in the attack.
Reports from a local official informed that the strikes primarily targeted the central village area, where the café, post office, and shops are situated. Concurrently, Ukraine initiated a large-scale drone offensive by launching 620 drones towards Moscow and its environs, marking one of the most extensive air assaults by Kyiv on the region.
Russian forces intercepted 180 drones over Moscow, with Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirming the downing of the drones and the ensuing emergency response efforts. The drone strikes impacted a warehouse belonging to Russian e-commerce company Wildberries and other facilities near Moscow, resulting in injuries, including a 10-year-old girl.
Furthermore, various Russian-controlled regions, including Crimea, reported significant attacks from Ukraine. Southern districts of the Crimean peninsula experienced drone assaults, leading to power supply disruptions in several settlements. In response to Britain’s alleged supply of drones to Ukraine, Russia cautioned of potential repercussions for London’s involvement in the conflict.
Britain’s Defence Ministry refrained from confirming the utilization of British-made drones in the attacks. However, a ministry spokesperson reiterated the UK’s support for Ukraine and commitment to supplying necessary equipment for defense purposes. In a funding initiative, Britain pledged to provide 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the conclusion of 2026 as part of a substantial financial package.
