The recent induction ceremony of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame saw the Tragically Hip, along with three other musical acts, being honored at Toronto’s Massey Hall. The event highlighted the memory of the late Gord Downie, the band’s former member who passed away in 2017 from brain cancer. During the ceremony, guitarist Rob Baker presented a message from Downie, expressing gratitude and nostalgia for their time together.

In addition to the Tragically Hip, the 2026 inductees included Feist, the songwriting duo of Loverboy, and French-Canadian artist Roch Voisine. The gala featured various performances that celebrated the iconic songs of the honorees, ranging from rock to indie pop to ballads, captivating the audience with a diverse musical experience.

As the evening wrapped up with a tribute to the Tragically Hip, a symbolic purple hat, reminiscent of Downie’s unique style, adorned the stage. Artists like Allison Russell paid homage to the band, emphasizing their everlasting love for Gord Downie through heartfelt performances.

The event also featured Finneas inducting Feist, praising her influence and performing one of her popular songs. Throughout the night, notable artists like Jeff Tweedy and Our Lady Peace delivered soulful renditions, honoring the legacy of the inductees.

From Amanda Marshall’s energetic tribute to Loverboy to emotional performances by Voisine and Isabelle Boulay, the ceremony showcased the rich tapestry of Canadian songwriting talent.
