In an interview with iNews, Evans voiced his frustration, stating that his omission from the doubles lineup, especially in the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, was perplexing. He emphasized that his skills in doubles should not be judged solely on his tour performances and suggested a reevaluation of selection criteria based on playing styles rather than rankings.
Although Evans missed out on doubles opportunities previously, he eventually secured a victory partnering with Neal Skupski in a Davis Cup match against Colombia the following year. Despite an injury preventing his participation in the 2023 Davis Cup Finals, Evans contributed to Britain’s successful 3-1 triumph.
However, in the 2025 Davis Cup, Britain faced a defeat to Japan in the qualifying round, eliminating them from the competition. Italy, led by Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli, advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Austria. Berrettini’s win over Jurij Rodionov and Cobolli’s victory against Filip Misolic secured Italy’s spot in the last-four showdown against Belgium.
