A Pittsburgh Penguins supporter is in critical condition after an incident at PPG Paints Arena. The fan fell from the upper concourse, landing 25 rows behind the team’s bench, after the Penguins scored their second goal.
The individual, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was quickly taken to the hospital, as reported by Pittsburgh Public Safety Department. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the fall, leading to the closure of ten seats in Section 234.
The NHL franchise confirmed the incident, stating that immediate medical attention was provided to the adult male before being transported to a local hospital. The Pittsburgh Penguins and OVG Management Group are closely monitoring the situation, expressing their support for the affected individual and their family.
During the game against the St. Louis Blues, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby mentioned the incident, expressing his thoughts and prayers for the injured fan. Penguins coach Dan Muse also extended his prayers to the fan’s family, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
This is not the first time a fan in Pittsburgh has suffered severe injuries while attending a sports event. In a similar event at PNC Park, a Pittsburgh Pirates fan was seriously injured, while a worker at Acrisure Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, was also injured in a fall near the stadium’s scoreboard.
