Virgin Media Upgrading Customers to Advanced Hub 5 Router

-

Virgin Media has announced that some of its broadband customers will soon receive upgrades to their home routers. The company will be transitioning eligible users from older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices to the more advanced Hub 5 at no additional cost. The newer Hub 5 features upgraded Wi-Fi 6 technology, promising faster and more reliable connections compared to the older models.

According to Virgin Media, customers eligible for the upgrade will be notified via email in the upcoming weeks and months as the rollout progresses throughout 2026. The Hub 5 is equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas to enhance coverage within households. The company plans to gradually upgrade selected customers currently using outdated routers, with thousands expected to benefit by the end of 2026.

If you qualify for the upgrade, Virgin Media will contact you directly, eliminating the need for proactive action until you receive communication from them. To determine your router model, you can check the sticker on the back or bottom of your device or log in to the Virgin Media Connect app for verification.

Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can significantly enhance your broadband experience, offering wider Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and readiness for future updates. The advanced router is designed to accommodate faster Gig1 speeds, resulting in quicker downloads and streaming capabilities. Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, more than ten times faster than the UK average.

Wi-Fi 6 is the latest wireless networking technology, delivering faster speeds, increased efficiency, and enhanced performance in busy environments. It can support multiple connected devices simultaneously, providing improved performance across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. With better energy efficiency, Wi-Fi 6 is ideal for modern smart homes with high data demands. While Wi-Fi 7 technology is available for some homes, Wi-Fi 6 remains a suitable choice for the average user.
