A van driver intentionally struck and killed Paul Bowles, described as a “king, loving family man,” in a road rage incident witnessed by his daughter. The tragic event unfolded in Oldham, Greater Manchester, on March 26, when Andrew Robson, 33, allegedly swerved his Ford Transit van into Bowles’ path.
The confrontation began as the two men, driving separate vehicles, came to a stop at traffic lights on Broadway, Chadderton. Bowles and his daughter, Katie-May, noticed Robson driving too closely to their Nissan Qashqai. Prosecutors stated that after a heated argument and physical altercation between the two men, Robson deliberately drove his van towards Bowles, striking him and causing fatal injuries.
Despite the efforts of paramedics and law enforcement at the scene, Bowles succumbed to his injuries. Robson turned himself in to the police a few hours later and declined to provide any statements during questioning.
In a heartfelt tribute from Greater Manchester Police, Bowles was remembered as a kind-hearted and selfless individual, cherished for his intellect, wit, and compassion. The family expressed deep sorrow over their loss, emphasizing Bowles’ significant impact on those around him.
During the trial, a reconstruction expert testified that Robson had ample opportunity to avoid the collision, suggesting that the act was deliberate. However, Robson maintains his innocence, denying charges of murder and manslaughter. The trial is expected to span two weeks as the legal proceedings continue.
