“Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Opens Up About Netflix Partnership”

-

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has openly discussed her partnership with Netflix in a recent interview.

In recent weeks, the former royal has been actively engaged, attending the Balenciaga show at Paris Fashion Week and receiving an award with her husband, Prince Harry. However, her latest appearance involved a detailed conversation covering various topics, including the revised terms of their collaboration with the streaming service Netflix. This collaboration dates back to 2020 when they transitioned from their roles as working royals.

The multi-year agreement was one of several notable business ventures the couple embarked on as they sought to independently support their lifestyle.

Initially valued at £75 million, their content for Netflix included a documentary series detailing their love story and departure from the royal family, Meghan’s lifestyle program “With Love, Meghan,” and “Polo,” a documentary series exploring elite sports and player lifestyles.

While some of the couple’s productions on Netflix faced criticism, including a documentary that set viewing records but was deemed repetitive by some reviewers, they recently secured a new, more flexible deal with the streaming platform. This deal granted Netflix the first option on their content ideas, with the Sussexes having the freedom to explore other platforms if Netflix declined the projects. This shift was perceived as a “downgrade” by some experts due to previous content struggles.

Speaking at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit 2025, Meghan provided insights into their ongoing collaboration with Netflix, highlighting the positive aspects of their evolving partnership. She expressed gratitude for the creative relationship with Netflix, particularly in conjunction with her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

Despite Meghan’s optimistic outlook, some, like PR expert Mark Borkowski, viewed the first-look deal as a step back for the couple, suggesting that Netflix distanced itself from the duo following underwhelming performance of their content. Apart from Netflix, Meghan and Harry also secured significant deals with Penguin Random House, publishing Harry’s memoir “Spare,” and Spotify in 2020, with the latter valued at £18 million.

In 2023, Meghan and Harry parted ways with Spotify after delivering only one podcast, “Archetypes,” following mutual agreement.
