A guest was shocked when a rat ran up his leg as he arrived at an Ibis Budget hotel in Birmingham. Gerard Coleman, who traveled from Northern Ireland to visit terminally-ill relatives, also encountered drug and alcohol misuse during his stay. Despite the disturbing experience, the hotel chain has issued a full refund and an apology for the inconvenience.
The rat infestation, attributed to ongoing bin strikes in the area, was limited to external areas, with no reports of rodents inside the building. To address the issue, measures such as increased litter patrols and potential removal of surrounding bushes have been put in place. The hotel assured that guest safety is a top priority and emphasized that prompt action was taken to prevent further disturbances.
Mr. Coleman captured footage showing rats among discarded rubbish outside the hotel entrance, expressing his disgust and distress at the situation. He highlighted the impact the infestation had on his stay, preventing him from going out at night or getting food. Despite the challenges faced, the hotel remains dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for guests and is actively working to resolve external challenges.
