“Fatal Crash Driver Jailed: Nitrous Oxide Use Leads to Prison”

-

The driver responsible for a fatal car crash that resulted in the death of a passenger has been sentenced to prison for dangerous driving. The incident, which occurred in Stockport, Greater Manchester, claimed the life of Ryan Evans, aged 27. The driver, Arran Donnelly, 28, was allegedly using nitrous oxide just moments before the tragic accident. The crash occurred on Broadstone Road in Reddish while the group of friends was en route to a pub. The speeding car lost control, hit a wall, and tragically killed Mr. Evans.

Witnesses reported that Donnelly was driving recklessly at speeds significantly exceeding the limit, with aggressive acceleration in a residential area. The court heard accounts of his high-speed driving behavior, described as erratic and dangerous by onlookers. Despite clear visibility and no road surface defects, the crash was attributed to driver error.

Evidence presented in court included a video retrieved from Mr. Evans’ phone showing Donnelly using nitrous oxide shortly before the crash. CCTV footage captured the car speeding and ultimately crashing into a wall. At the crash site, witnesses saw injured passengers, and emergency services were called to the scene.

Donnelly pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison. Additionally, he received a driving ban for over eight years and was required to undergo a retest. During the sentencing, the judge emphasized the severe consequences of dangerous driving, highlighting the lethal potential of cars in the wrong hands.

Detective Constable Alex Giblin of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit remarked that Donnelly’s actions led to a tragic loss of life and emphasized the dangers of reckless driving combined with substance use. The hope is that this case serves as a stark reminder to all road users about the risks of such behavior.
