Samsung TV owners in the UK are in for a treat as they are set to receive a significant upgrade at no extra cost, providing access to a wealth of additional content. UKTV has recently announced that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be accessible on Samsung screens, allowing viewers in the UK to enjoy content without the need for extra devices for the first time.
The channels will be delivered via the internet, eliminating the necessity for a traditional aerial setup. In addition to this, Samsung will introduce a dedicated section on its home screen to showcase content from the U streaming service, making it easier for users to discover and watch classic comedies, dramas, and factual shows without the hassle of navigating through menus or settings.
In the upcoming months, Samsung TV users can expect channels like U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&Yesterday, U&W, and U&Eden to be directly accessible through a deep link from Samsung’s Universal Guide into the U app.
Samsung anticipates that this rollout will encompass millions of its TVs, with the channels being featured in the platform’s ‘Live’ tab and Universal Guide, ensuring that UKTV’s live and on-demand content remains prominently visible to viewers who rely on internet-based television services.
Jonathan Newman, Commercial General Manager at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, expressed his enthusiasm about the enhanced partnership with Samsung, emphasizing the increased accessibility of the U app to Samsung customers and the continued visibility of UKTV’s diverse content across video-on-demand and live channels.
Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, highlighted the significant role played by UKTV in enriching the entertainment offerings on Samsung TVs. He emphasized Samsung’s commitment to enhancing the entertainment experience for customers by providing access to a broad range of broadcast content through collaborations like this one.
As the leading TV brand globally for 20 consecutive years, Samsung’s partnership with UKTV underscores its dedication to enhancing the viewing experience through innovative solutions. The collaboration aims to offer a comprehensive entertainment ecosystem by combining UKTV’s content with services such as Samsung TV Plus and built-in broadcast app access.
Although an official launch date has not been disclosed, the new features are expected to roll out on Samsung TVs in the coming days, promising an enriched viewing experience for users.
