“British Sailor’s Disappearance Linked to Kebab Shop Robbery”

-

The disappearance of a British sailor, James Nunan, was linked to a robbery at a kebab shop where he was last seen over a month ago. Nunan, 34, went missing after embarking on a sailing journey near Gran Canaria, Spain, with intentions to circumnavigate the globe. Investigators suspect a possible accident at sea after Nunan spent a night ashore. Detectives utilized the theft incident to retrace his final movements.

Following his disappearance, Nunan’s distressed family traveled to Gran Canaria to assist in the search for the sailor. Spanish authorities were informed of a sighting on August 19 when Nunan reported his missing passport at a police station.

Nunan, originally from Colchester, had been using an Irish passport during his travels. His last known whereabouts were in Las Palmas, where he docked his yacht in the Las Isletas neighborhood and was later seen at Paddy’s Anchor, an Irish pub. Subsequently, he visited a kebab shop where his backpack was allegedly stolen.

Known to his loved ones as Jemsie, Nunan was planning a journey from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote before attempting a transatlantic voyage to Brazil. His half-sister, Nikita Goddard, expressed the family’s emotional strain and hope for his safe return during an interview with the BBC.

Despite the discovery of Nunan’s boat approximately 100 miles from Las Palmas, the search for him continues. Authorities are concentrating on the theory that he may have encountered an accident at sea, possibly falling from the yacht mast, as his life jacket and climbing equipment were missing from the vessel.

A spokesperson from the Civil Guard stated that the prevailing belief is that Nunan may have had an accident while attempting to climb the mast in challenging weather conditions. However, all leads are being pursued, and the investigation remains open.
