Irish sprinter She’s Quality has tragically passed away in a hospital following a severe pelvic fracture sustained while competing at the Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar, California. The talented four-year-old filly, hailing from Dunboyne, Co Meath and trained by Jack Davison, had achieved notable success, garnering over £250,000 in earnings and securing four second-place finishes in Group races throughout 2025.
Anticipated to be a strong contender in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, She’s Quality faced a sudden end to her race as she fell behind early in the 13-horse field. Jockey Colin Keane, sensing an issue, promptly pulled her up on the back stretch while the rest of the competitors surged ahead.
Following the distressing incident, veterinary assistance was swiftly provided as She’s Quality was dismounted and attended to by medical professionals. Despite initial efforts to assess her condition, the filly displayed signs of lameness in her right hind leg, prompting her transport via equine ambulance to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
Tragically, within 24 hours, Jack Davison shared the heartbreaking news of She’s Quality’s demise due to the pelvic fracture sustained during the race. Despite initial stabilization efforts at the San Luis Rey Equine Hospital, her condition deteriorated overnight, leading to the difficult but humane decision to euthanize her.
Expressing profound sorrow over the loss, Davison acknowledged She’s Quality as a top-tier filly who had left an indelible mark on their team. He extended gratitude to his dedicated staff for their unwavering care and bid farewell to the beloved horse.
The Breeders’ Cup also conveyed condolences, acknowledging the profound impact of She’s Quality’s passing on the racing community and extending sympathies to her connections during this difficult time.
