Users of various devices, including Samsung models, have encountered screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app, causing text disappearance or the display of blank white boxes instead of messages. Concerned individuals have expressed their frustrations on social media platforms like X, with one user named Jeremiah calling out the problem on folding phones like the Samsung Fold.
Similar grievances have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with users attempting various troubleshooting steps to no avail. According to Google product expert Kimiya Kitani, the problem is related to Android System WebView, a critical component enabling apps to exhibit web content within the app interface.
Kitani highlighted that specific devices, such as Samsung tablets, are facing intermittent challenges with Android System WebView, with the issue already brought to Google’s attention. While the exact number of affected users remains unclear, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold series and select Galaxy tablets are among those most impacted.
In the interim, a temporary solution has been suggested. Kitani recommends rotating the device as a quick remedy to halt the flickering. Users can open emails in portrait mode, switch to landscape mode until the screen stabilizes, and then revert to portrait mode.
As users await a permanent fix from Google, this workaround may prove effective in addressing the screen flickering glitches.
