Dolly Parton’s journey from humble beginnings to success has not only inspired her music but also led to the creation of a theme park, a podcast, and now a musical set to debut on Broadway later this year. Titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” the production promises to narrate Dolly’s life story in her own words and through the songs that have influenced her. In a video announcement, the 80-year-old singer assured that the musical would authentically portray her experiences of loss, love, and resilience.

The Broadway show will feature a mix of new songs specifically crafted for the production and some of Dolly Parton’s iconic hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.” Scheduled to kick off in New York City on December 7 this year, the performances are planned to run until November 21, 2027.

Expressing her excitement, Dolly Parton, whose illustrious career spans nearly seven decades, shared that this opportunity was a dream come true. With over 3,000 songs to her credit and more than 100 million albums sold globally, Dolly Parton is a revered figure in the music industry, having been inducted into both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The musical initially premiered in Nashville last summer at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, enjoying a sold-out six-week run. Director Bartlett Sher expressed his awe at the profound connection audiences have with Dolly, noting how she has inspired and brought joy to many over the years.

The production aims to showcase a side of Dolly Parton that has never been seen before, delving into her personal journey beyond the glitz and glamour associated with her image. Tickets for the Broadway show will be available for purchase starting on Friday, July 10.
