Renowned romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her upcoming novel titled “Only in Summer” is scheduled for release on May 18, 2027. This new book will transport readers back to Barry’s Bay, Ont., a familiar setting from Fortune’s previous works “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” and a place of personal significance to the author.
In a recent newsletter announcement, Fortune shared her excitement about purchasing a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream since selling her family’s lakeside home. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, mirrors this dream of owning property in Barry’s Bay. Ellie, the cousin of characters Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s earlier novels, grew up in Barry’s Bay and aspires to acquire her own piece of the idyllic location. However, her plans are disrupted by the demolition of a neighboring house to make way for a grand mansion, setting the stage for a potential unexpected romance against the backdrop of the lakeside community.
Carley Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, has an impressive editorial background with notable stints at Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her literary repertoire includes acclaimed works such as “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.” The latter, “Meet Me at the Lake,” was a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, advocated by fashion influencer and model Mirian Njoh, marking a significant milestone as the first romance novel featured on the show.
Furthermore, “Every Summer After” has been adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” which premiered recently and was renewed for a second season, drawing inspiration from “One Golden Summer.” Additionally, Netflix Canada is in the process of developing a 10-episode series based on Fortune’s novel “This Summer Will Be Different.”
