During the podcast “On Film… With Kevin McCarthy,” Page responded to host Kevin McCarthy’s assumption that he would be inundated with roles post-“The Odyssey” by stating, “No, Kevin, I’m not.” Despite delivering a standout performance in the film, Page expressed surprise at the lack of incoming opportunities.
Page, a Halifax native, has been in the spotlight for his acting work since childhood, with notable roles in acclaimed movies like “Juno,” “Inception,” and “Hard Candy.” In 2020, he publicly came out as transgender, using his platform to advocate against anti-2SLGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation in both the U.S. and Canada.
Addressing the backlash surrounding rumors of his casting as Achilles in “The Odyssey,” Page humorously referenced the unfounded controversy stirred up by right-wing figures like Ben Shapiro and Megyn Kelly. The actor emphasized the importance of authentic representation and has been vocal about supporting gender-diverse individuals in the entertainment industry.
Despite the lack of new acting opportunities post-“The Odyssey,” Page remains optimistic about his future projects. He expressed a newfound confidence in his craft since his transition, noting that he now feels empowered to deliver some of his best work. Reflecting on his journey in the industry, Page highlighted the personal growth he has experienced, especially compared to past projects like “Inception.”
Page’s experience of post-film career challenges is not unique, as fellow cast member Samantha Morton, who portrayed Circe in “The Odyssey,” also shared similar struggles finding work after the movie’s release.
