John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider community to influence the organization’s future direction.
Commencing on October 1, Tory’s tenure was announced in a recent press release. The upcoming festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021 and commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing his enduring pride in contributing to the festival’s progression.
TIFF also introduced three new members to its board of directors, namely Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch EchevarrÃa. Simultaneously, Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, will be stepping down. TIFF acknowledged Daniere’s lengthy service and significant contributions to the organization, extending their gratitude towards her.
