A recent teaser trailer for the documentary film “You Can See Everything” may have left viewers feeling uneasy and unsettled, and the full-length version does little to alleviate those feelings. The film, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, was shot over 34 days leading up to Elizabeth Holmes’ incarceration for defrauding investors through her company, Theranos.
Fielder and his team are openly skeptical in the documentary, challenging Holmes with tough questions as she maintains her innocence and sheds a tear during the intense interviews. A24, the production company, describes the film as a deep dive into the life of an enigmatic criminal, evolving into a surreal three-year exploration.
The extended trailer also delves into Holmes’ relationship with her husband, Billy Evans, a scion of a successful hotelier family. They met in 2017 amidst the collapse of Theranos, a company Holmes founded, claiming groundbreaking technology for disease screening with minimal blood samples. Despite initial success, criminal charges were brought against her in 2015.
In the documentary, Fielder, renowned for his satirical show “Nathan for You,” probes Evans about his connection to Holmes, questioning the authenticity of their relationship. The film reveals that Holmes and Evans welcomed their first child in August 2021, shortly before her conviction for wire fraud and conspiracy.
Holmes disclosed her second pregnancy after receiving an 11-year prison sentence. The film captures Holmes reporting to prison in 2023 and includes candid moments where Fielder questions Evans about his trust in Holmes, highlighting the complexities of their dynamic. “You Can See Everything” is set to hit theaters on October 16.
