The horse racing community is saddened by the passing of apprentice jockey Tommie Jakes, who tragically died at the age of 19.

In a joint statement, the Injured Jockeys’ Fund and Professional Jockeys Association announced the death of licensed apprentice jockey Tommie Jakes. They expressed deep sadness over the loss of the 19-year-old, who passed away at his home near Newmarket.

Described as a beloved son and brother, Tommie Jakes was a well-liked member of George Boughey’s racing team. His family, Jeremy and Tonie, have requested privacy during this difficult time.

Tommie Jakes, who recently rode at Nottingham, was scheduled to ride for trainer Ismail Mohammed at Chelmsford. He had achieved 59 wins since 2023 out of 519 races, establishing himself as a promising talent in the racing scene.

Coming from a racing family background, Jakes began his career following his father’s footsteps. He had notable victories, including his first win aboard Suzi’s Connoisseur at Lingfield in 2023.

The British Horseracing Authority expressed devastation over Tommie’s passing, highlighting his talent and positive reputation among trainers. The racing community mourns his loss and extends support to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Marking respect for Tommie, tributes will be held at Chelmsford and Southwell racecourses. George Boughey’s team shared their heartbreak over Tommie’s death, emphasizing his talent, kindness, and dedication.
