Brighton & Hove Albion has officially secured Canadian striker Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The player, who previously represented Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise, will join Brighton on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for a reported fee of $29.7 million US, subject to specific conditions.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will transition to the Premier League starting from the following season, setting a new transfer record for the Belgian club. David’s move to Brighton comes after an impressive stint at Union, where he notched 41 goals in 82 appearances and played a key role in the team’s first league title victory in 90 years back in 2025. He extended his contract with Union through June 2029 last year.
The 25-year-old forward, who hails from Brampton, Ontario, made his mark on the international stage by representing Canada at the recent World Cup, scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 senior national team outings, David has proven his talent and versatility. Initially a part of Nigeria’s under-23 squad, he successfully switched his allegiance to Canada in 2025 following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch and FIFA approval.
Having played across various European leagues, including Croatia, Malta, and Estonia, David’s move to Belgium in July 2024 marked a significant chapter in his career. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, highlighting David’s goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable assets for the team. As David enters his prime years at 25, Brighton aims to leverage his skills to further strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
Brighton, a consistent presence in the Premier League for nine consecutive seasons, finished in eighth place in the previous campaign, showcasing their competitive spirit and ambition in the English top-flight football scene.
