A man has tragically passed away after sustaining gunshot injuries, while a woman is currently hospitalized following a shooting incident that occurred in a park in the UK.
The Metropolitan Police responded swiftly to the incident at Clissold Park, located in Stoke Newington, north London, shortly after 7pm. Both victims, aged in their 40s, received medical attention at the scene before being transported to the hospital, where the man was unfortunately pronounced dead. The condition of the woman remains undisclosed at this time.
According to a statement from the Met Police, they were alerted to the shooting at 7:06 pm on Wednesday, September 17. The woman received treatment from paramedics and was taken to the hospital for further care. The man, also in his 40s, received treatment for his gunshot wounds but, despite efforts by paramedics, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Authorities are currently working to identify his next of kin.
Law enforcement officials discovered a firearm believed to be linked to the incident at the park and safely secured it at the scene. Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter, overseeing policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, stated that the individuals involved in the shooting were acquainted with each other, and the incident is being treated as isolated.
Richter expressed empathy for those affected by the distressing event, including witnesses and the local community. He assured that there is no broader threat to public safety, as the police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. A crime scene has been established for further examination, with heightened police presence in the area.
