Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite will be temporarily offline for update 39.20 starting at 9 am GMT on January 9. For players in the US, this translates to 1 am PDT / 4 am EDT, and for European fans, 10 am CET.
To prepare for the downtime, matchmaking will be disabled 30 minutes before the scheduled maintenance, prompting players to log in before 8:30 am GMT if they wish to squeeze in one final game session.
The announcement was made by Epic Games on X, stating, “Round up your Quint and lock in! Downtime for v39.20 begins at 4 AM ET (09:00 UTC). Matchmaking will be disabled 30 minutes prior.”
The server downtime is estimated to last approximately two hours. As per the official Epic Games server status page, servers are expected to be operational again by 11 am GMT.
For players in different time zones, this means servers will be back online at 3 am PDT / 6 am EDT / 12 pm CET.
