Minnesota Lynx guard Kayla McBride put on a memorable performance for the home fans on Sunday at the Target Center. McBride set a new WNBA single-game record by sinking 10 3-pointers in a 103-90 victory against the Dallas Wings.
She shot an impressive 10 out of 14 from beyond the arc, scoring a career-high 43 points. The crowd seemed to be cheering her on as she chased the record, and she delivered in spectacular fashion with a record-breaking shot with 2:23 left in the game, giving the Lynx a commanding 98-83 lead. McBride left the court to a thunderous ovation with 1:21 remaining, expressing gratitude to the fans and the organization for their unwavering support.
Reflecting on her performance, McBride shared, “Minneapolis has become home for me, and I strive to give my best. The love and appreciation I feel from the fans and the organization motivate me to perform at my peak. I am grateful for the opportunity to showcase my skills and give back to those who support me.”
McBride’s exceptional display not only set a new individual record but also helped the Lynx (27-7) break the franchise’s single-game 3-point record. The team made a total of 18 3-pointers out of 39 attempts, securing their 12th win in the last 13 games and becoming the first team to secure a playoff spot.
Minnesota’s offensive prowess has been remarkable, with four out of their last six games surpassing the 100-point mark. Despite their recent successes, Sunday was all about McBride shining on center stage in front of the loyal hometown supporters who have followed her career for over five seasons.
Expressing her gratitude, McBride stated, “I am immensely thankful for moments like this. After being in the league for 13 years, returning here in the offseason was a decision filled with uncertainties. However, performances like today reaffirm that it was the right choice.”
