Mariah Carey has kicked off the holiday season in a memorable way, transforming into Mrs. Claus in a recent video. The renowned pop star, often referred to as the Queen of Christmas for her successful holiday music career, is best known for her 1994 hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and the album “Merry Christmas.” In the new clip, she appears in an angelic all-white ensemble complete with wings and feathers, emphatically exclaiming, “It’s time!”
The footage, a collaboration with Sephora, features the 56-year-old singer discovering that her makeup has been taken by a disgruntled elf who claims Christmas is “cancelled” due to their dissatisfaction. The elf humorously explains that the elves are on strike this year, seeking revenge for enduring holiday chaos, with Santa’s helper even quitting to afford elf therapy.
Despite the elf’s attempts to sabotage Christmas by taking Mariah’s makeup, she asserts, “You can’t cancel Christmas!” The interaction culminates in the elf being covered in ice as Mariah sings, “It’s time!” The video progresses to show Mariah soaring over a snowy New York City, delivering gifts from her sleigh while her classic song “All I Want for Christmas Is You” plays. This annual tradition of Mariah’s “It’s time” videos is typically released on November 1st, following Halloween.
Earlier this year, Mariah announced her collaboration with director Joseph Kahn on this video project. Upon sharing the video on Instagram, comedian and actor Billy Eichner, who portrays the elf, expressed his admiration for working with Mariah.
Fans and followers of Mariah expressed excitement over the video, with one remarking, “It’s timeeeeee,” while another stated, “The queen has officially declared that IT’S TIMEEEEE, been waiting all year for this.” Speculation arose regarding a potential makeup line collaboration with Sephora following the video release.
Reflecting on her love for Christmas, Mariah shared in a past interview that the holiday season holds a special place in her heart, emphasizing the magic and sincerity she feels when singing her festive songs. Despite challenges in her childhood due to a dysfunctional family, Mariah has embraced and enhanced her holiday traditions, including creating new experiences with her children, Moroccan and Monroe, by visiting Aspen, Colorado, each year for a snowy Christmas.
