Canada’s national police force announced on Monday the arrest of a 51-year-old individual from Montreal for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier faces charges of making threats to cause harm or death, according to a press release from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The threats in question were reportedly communicated via email to various unnamed recipients, including a senator, as outlined in the RCMP statement. Additionally, the accused allegedly targeted “all Canadian police officers,” as indicated in the official charge sheet.
Police authorities confirmed that Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and vandalism for setting fire to a church in Toronto back in 2017, while he was serving probation for those offenses. The accused made a court appearance on Saturday, although the charges against him have yet to be substantiated in court.
