In the hearts of fans, Matthew Perry’s portrayal of Chandler Bing on the long-running show “Friends” was truly unforgettable. However, following his passing in 2023, many found it challenging to reconcile the news of his ketamine addiction with the beloved character he played on the sitcom.
Netflix is now set to shed more light on the life of the actor from Canada through a three-part documentary series titled “The One About Matthew Perry.” The series will delve into Perry’s journey from an up-and-coming comedic talent to his iconic role on the popular NBC show. The streaming platform announced that the documentary will feature never-before-heard accounts from his inner circle, including close friends and his sister Mia Perry Bowick, who is a grief specialist.
Bowick, who openly discussed her grieving process after Perry’s demise, expressed, “It has taken me time to be prepared to share these recollections and the experience of loving Matthew amidst the complexities of his life – to see him as a complete individual, beyond just Chandler, and not solely as someone grappling with addiction.”
Tragically, Perry was discovered deceased at the age of 54 due to a ketamine overdose in his home hot tub. Five individuals admitted guilt to charges related to providing him with the drug. Dr. Salvador Plasencia, one of them, who supplied Perry with ketamine, is currently appealing his 30-month prison sentence.
The documentary promises to offer insights not only from Perry’s admirers but also reveal intimate details about his personal struggles, paying tribute to his legacy of transparency and advocacy. The series is scheduled to premiere on October 27.
