Get ready to bundle up as the second season of North of North returns to Ice Cove. This acclaimed comedy series, a collaboration between APTN, CBC, and Netflix, follows Siaja (played by Anna Lambe), a young Inuk woman navigating life post a highly publicized breakup. Season 1 saw great success, ranking in Netflix’s Top 10 in 33 countries and earning accolades for its blend of humor and poignant themes.
“We love comedy with heart. We love to laugh, but we also love to cry,” shared co-creator and executive producer Stacey Aglok MacDonald. The show received nine Canadian Screen Awards, including best comedy series and best lead performer for Lambe.
The second season picks up from where the first one left off, delving into Siaja’s challenges as she balances motherhood, work, and dating while navigating complex relationships with her mother, Neevee (Maika Harper), and estranged father, Alistair (Jay Ryan). The plot unfolds as Siaja grapples with newfound family revelations and strives to rebuild her identity.
The series stays true to its roots by filming in Iqaluit, representing Ice Cove, providing an authentic and magical backdrop. The creators emphasize the importance of Inuit representation in the cast and crew, ensuring the show’s authenticity. The global launch on Netflix is set for later this fall.
