Michelle Tolley, a dedicated campaigner for those affected by the NHS infected blood scandal, was honored at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards. Alongside other campaigners, she received a Special Recognition Award last year.
During the awards ceremony, Michelle was pleasantly surprised to learn that all winners, including herself, were being gifted a cruise holiday by P&O Cruises, the new headline partner for the awards. This unexpected reward came as a delight to Michelle, who has spent years advocating for victims and seeking justice.
Michelle’s journey began when she contracted hepatitis C from a blood transfusion in 1987, leading to years of health struggles before proper diagnosis and treatment. Determined to turn her anger into something positive, she established support groups, collaborated with organizations like the Hepatitis C Trust, and participated in governmental inquiries.
After decades of tireless work, Michelle and her husband Dean embraced the opportunity for a well-deserved vacation. Booking a Canary Islands cruise with P&O Cruises, they also decided to renew their wedding vows during the trip. To their surprise, P&O Cruises organized the vow renewal ceremony, providing them with a memorable experience onboard the Ventura cruise ship.
During their cruise, Michelle and Dean explored various destinations, from Madeira to the Canary Islands, making the most of their time ashore. Their adventures included tours by tuk-tuk and river boat, offering them a unique perspective on each location.
Reflecting on their cruise holiday, Michelle expressed gratitude for the exceptional treatment they received onboard Ventura, praising the staff and facilities. She encouraged others to consider cruise vacations, highlighting the fantastic amenities and friendly atmosphere that made their experience truly memorable.
