“Scottish Darts Prodigy Mitchell Lawrie Sets New Record at WDF Irish Classic”

-

Mitchell Lawrie, a young darts talent from Scotland, has made history by becoming the youngest player to secure three senior men’s titles, surpassing Luke Littler’s previous record. The remarkable achievement took place at the WDF Irish Classic in Killarney where Lawrie, aged just 15, clinched the victory on a memorable Saturday night.

Lawrie’s triumph came after defeating Ronan McDonagh in an impressive 5-1 victory, showcasing his skills with four 180s and an average score of 98.60. Prior to this, he also claimed the Irish Classic Youths title by defeating Kaya Basal with a 4-1 score and an average of 90.95.

During the thrilling final at the INEC Arena in Kerry, Ireland, Lawrie had the support of his father, Fraser, and grandfather, Dougie, who cheered him on as he secured yet another title. This win makes Lawrie the new record holder, beating Littler’s previous record by five months. Lawrie is now gearing up to participate in the upcoming WDF world championships in Lakeside.

As Lawrie continues to make waves in the darts world, the reigning PDC World Champion is preparing to defend his title at Alexandra Palace. Lawrie, who previously won the British Open and Welsh Open, is diligently preparing for potential future competitions.

Despite Lawrie’s success, he will have to wait until he turns 16 to compete against Littler in PDC events. Nevertheless, Lawrie’s family is proud of his achievements and is supportive of his darts journey. In an interview with The Sun, his grandfather, Dougie, emphasized that they want Lawrie to be himself rather than following in Littler’s footsteps.

Dougie also mentioned that he played a significant role in teaching Lawrie how to play darts from a young age, instilling in him a competitive and aggressive playing style that has contributed to Lawrie’s success on the darts stage.

Looking back at the history of darts, the sport has seen legendary figures such as Eric Bristow, Jocky Wilson, John Lowe, Bobby George, Keith Deller, and Cliff Lazarenko, who have left an indelible mark on the game.
