“Smaller UK Mobile Networks Outshine Big Four in Performance and Value”

-

A recent report from consumer group Which? has revealed that the major mobile networks in the UK, including EE, Vodafone, Three, and O2, are falling short in terms of overall performance compared to their smaller competitors. Following a survey of over 5,000 smartphone users nationwide, it was found that lesser-known networks are excelling in providing better value and superior customer service.

The survey aimed to assess which providers are meeting customer expectations and which ones are not. The results indicated that the established “Big Four” networks are trailing behind many of the smaller rivals in the industry.

Leading the rankings were Talkmobile, followed closely by Tesco Mobile, Giffgaff, and SMARTY. Among the major providers, EE performed the best, securing the ninth position, while O2 and Three ranked among the lowest.

One of the key findings highlighted in the report was the significant price disparity between the Big Four networks and smaller providers. Customers on the major networks were found to be paying an average of £16 per month for a SIM-only deal, whereas users on smaller networks were only paying around £9 per month.

Despite the lower prices offered by smaller providers, the report noted that coverage quality is not compromised as many of these companies utilize the infrastructure of major networks, ensuring similar signal strength and service quality without the premium costs associated with well-known brands.

Furthermore, switching between networks was reported to be a straightforward process, with some customers able to make the transition in as little as 10 minutes. A member of Which? shared their positive experience of switching from O2 to a SMARTY plan, saving approximately £200 annually.

Natalie Hitchins, Head of Home Products and Services at Which?, emphasized that smaller mobile providers consistently outshine the larger firms by offering better customer service and more cost-effective deals. She encouraged customers nearing the end of their contracts to consider switching to providers that offer better value and improved services.

The full rankings from Which? showed Talkmobile at 83%, Tesco Mobile at 81%, Giffgaff and SMARTY at 79%, Voxi and 1p Mobile at 78%, Lebara at 78%, Asda Mobile at 77%, EE at 74%, iD Mobile and Sky Mobile at 73%, Vodafone at 72%, Lycamobile at 68%, O2 at 67%, and Three at 65%.
