The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have reported the death of a 47-year-old man in a collision involving two commercial transport trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland. The incident occurred near Gullbridge, also known as Gull Pond Bridge, between Badger and South Brook, with police arriving at the scene just after 2:15 a.m. NT on Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, both vehicles were engulfed in flames.

The driver of one of the trucks, a 47-year-old man traveling eastbound, was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the westbound tractor-trailer sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment, where they remain under medical care. As a result of the police response, a section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Badger and South Brook was closed for several hours on Tuesday.

Authorities have stated that an investigation into the cause of the collision is currently ongoing.
