A judge has permanently barred a woman, Yasmin Green, from returning to a city in the UK after she confessed to defrauding her partner of thousands of pounds. Green, aged 34 and hailing from Grimsby, pleaded guilty to scamming her partner out of a £5,000 loan for a non-existent house and fabricating a false land registry document for the fictional property. She also acknowledged creating a fake identity to manipulate her partner into participating in the house purchase and securing a car loan in the victim’s name without authorization.
During the court proceedings at Grimsby Crown Court, it was revealed that Green and the victim had been in a relationship for a year, having initially met on a Tinder date in 2020. The victim had unknowingly met Green instead of the expected Danielle at a bar. The victim’s memory was hazy, waking up the next day with Green at her home, claiming they had met Danielle the night before, although the victim had no recollection of it.
Green continued the deception by portraying herself as ‘Danielle’ in communications with the victim, leading to a scheme where she persuaded the victim to take out loans to purchase a flat supposedly owned by ‘Danielle.’ The victim transferred £5,000 for a 50% ownership stake in the fake property after being provided with a counterfeit mortgage document by Green. The victim later discovered unauthorized car finance and credit card applications in her name.
In response to Green’s actions, the judge not only prohibited her from entering Hull for life but also instructed her to repay a portion of the defrauded money as compensation. Describing Green’s behavior as deceitful and manipulative, the judge emphasized the severe breach of trust and imposed a suspended two-year prison sentence, along with community service and a rehabilitation program. Additionally, a permanent restraining order was issued, preventing Green from contacting her former partner and using her name on any social media platforms, and she was directed to compensate the victim and pay a surcharge.
