A vehicle fire has led to the closure of a section of the M25 while firefighters work to extinguish the flames. National Highways South East announced the closure of the M25 anti-clockwise in Surrey between Junction 10 for the A3 in Guildford and Junction 8 in Reigate due to the incident. SurreyFRS and National Highways Traffic Officers are currently at the scene addressing the situation.
Although all lanes have been reopened, drivers are advised to anticipate traffic and delays on the M25. National Highways urged motorists to expect congestion over a 3-mile stretch and requested their patience as delays gradually subside.
Five fire engines were dispatched to the M25 to combat the fire that occurred earlier in the day. According to a spokesperson from SFRS, emergency crews responded to a call about a vehicle fire between junctions 9 and 8 on the M25. The fire involved a detached trailer and was successfully extinguished by the teams, with the scene being cleared around 13:40 pm.
The M25 has now fully reopened anti-clockwise between Junction 10 (Guildford/A3) and Junction 8 in Reigate after a lorry fire earlier in the day. However, drivers are still experiencing approximately three miles of congestion and are advised to wait for the traffic to gradually dissipate.
An AA alert highlighted the congestion on the M25 leading up to the closure between Junction 10 and Junction 8 on the anti-clockwise carriageway. The alert reported severe delays of 16 minutes, with traffic gradually easing between Junction 11 A320 St Peters Way in Chertsey and Junction 10 A3 Wisley Interchange, maintaining an average speed of ten mph.
On the opposite side of the closure, the AA alert noted severe delays of 17 minutes with traffic easing between Junction 9 A243 in Leatherhead and Junction 8 A217 Brighton Road in Reigate, also averaging a speed of ten mph.

Consequently, delays of up to 30 minutes were observed between Junctions J11 (Chertsey) and J10 (Guildford).
Inrix provided details of the closure, stating long delays and the closure of the M25 anti-clockwise from Junction 10 A3 (Wisley Interchange) to Junction 8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate). The closure led to congestion from Junction 11 (Chertsey) and was closed through to Junction 8 for a suitable diversion. Although two lanes of trapped traffic were released, the closure remained in place from Junction 10.
Drivers were advised to follow diversion signs via the A3 to Tolworth and the A243 back towards Reigate. Lengthy delays persisted along the M25 following the vehicle fire incident, with the authorities continuing to manage the situation.
In another update by National Highways, they shared information about the ongoing closure of the M25 anti-clockwise between Junction 10 (A3, Guildford) and Junction 8 (Reigate) due to the vehicle fire involving a HGV. The emergency response teams are actively addressing the situation at the scene.
The diverted traffic routes recommended by National Highways were outlined for drivers to follow. Inrix reported a partially blocked entry slip road on the M25 clockwise due to an accident at Junction 11 A320 St Peters Way in Chertsey, causing queuing traffic. The accident resulted in congestion from Junction 10 (Wisley) with queues extending back to Junction 13 (Staines).
The incident occurred at the M25 clockwise at the junction 11 slip road near Chertsey, leading to approximately three miles of queues and the closure of one lane on the slip road.
Authorities were alerted to the fire at 8:43 am this morning, resulting in the closure of parts of the M25 as firefighters worked to extinguish the vehicle fire.
