Bungie has officially announced the launch of their highly anticipated new extraction shooter on March 5, just two days after the original date for the Destiny 2 update. According to Paul Tussi from Forbes, this development has caused the postponement of the Destiny 2 update.
Shadow and Order was slated to be the final major update of Destiny 2’s Year of Prophecy season that began with the Rite of the Nine event in May last year. Meanwhile, Marathon is gaining significant attention and is set to offer a fresh take on the first-person shooter genre.
Marathon, a sci-fi game focused on extraction gameplay, immerses players in intense, fast-paced scenarios where the primary objective is to gather valuables, complete tasks, and outmaneuver rival players and AI opponents. Initially planned for a September 23, 2025 release, the game was delayed indefinitely after receiving criticism during public testing for its game mechanics.
With a confirmed release date and an affordable price of £40, Bungie’s latest offering seems to be causing a shift in plans for their previous title, Destiny 2.
