“Royal Awkwardness: King and Prince William Face Off with Prince Andrew”

-

The King and Prince William found themselves in an uncomfortable encounter with Prince Andrew at the funeral of the Duchess of Kent. The Royal Family members gathered to honor the late Duchess, who passed away at 92.

Following the service at Westminster Cathedral, the King, William, Kate, and other royals stood outside to bid their final farewells as the Duchess’s coffin was transported for a private burial at Windsor. During this moment, Prince Andrew, who has had strained relationships with his brother Charles and nephew Prince of Wales, engaged in conversation with them, resulting in a somewhat awkward exchange.

Witnesses observed Andrew smiling at William, who maintained a neutral expression during their interaction. Subsequently, Andrew conversed briefly with the King, who responded with a brief smile, while William averted his gaze as other royal family members departed the cathedral premises.

This event marked a rare appearance for Andrew outside of Windsor, where he resides at Royal Lodge, attending the funeral alongside his former wife Sarah, the Duchess of York. Andrew’s public image suffered due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein and recent involvement in a scandal linked to an alleged Chinese spy.

Reports suggest that the King and William have expressed frustration and disapproval of Andrew’s behavior, with William reportedly having little tolerance for his uncle. Andrew’s presence at the funeral, accompanied by his ex-wife, surprised onlookers.

Queen Camilla did not attend the funeral due to her recovery from acute sinusitis but aims to participate in the upcoming royal events during US President Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK.

The funeral service, a Catholic requiem mass, was the first of its kind for a royal family member in recent British history. Prior to the mass, the duchess’s family, including Lady Helen Taylor and the Duke of Kent, arrived to pay their respects. The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including former Formula One champion Sir Jackie Stewart and actresses Rula Lenska and Maureen Lipman.

During the service, Pope Leo XIV honored the Duchess’s legacy of charitable work and devotion to her official duties. Bishop James Curry delivered a touching homily, highlighting the Duchess’s diverse public contributions and her passion for teaching music to children.

Known for her compassionate nature, the Duchess, who preferred to be called Mrs. Kent, led a remarkable life dedicated to serving others. Following the funeral, her coffin was interred at the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore on the Windsor estate.
