The Met Office has advised residents in 15 areas in the UK to consider preparing emergency kits as yellow weather warnings have been issued for parts of Wales. The warnings indicate that up to 70mm of rain could fall in certain regions.
One warning covers a stretch from Cardiff to Tenby and up to Merthyr Tydfill, lasting from 6am to 11pm the following day. The forecast predicts persistent and heavy rain in southwest Wales, with expected rainfall between 30 to 40mm widely, and up to 50 to 70mm in the most affected areas.
To mitigate risks, the Met Office recommends checking for flood risks and preparing a flood plan and emergency flood kit. They also advise being ready for power outages by gathering essentials like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack.
Another warning for northwest Wales spans from 3am to 12pm, with anticipated rainfall of 30 to 40mm widely, and up to 50 to 60mm in some areas within six hours.
The forecast for Wednesday indicates a wet start with heavy rain in the west, gradually becoming drier and brighter in parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England while remaining breezy.
Unsettled conditions are expected into the weekend, with wind and rain likely. Showers and rains are forecasted for much of the country next week along with strong winds.
Looking ahead, a Met Office spokesperson highlighted a northwest-southeast split next week, with potential rain or showers in southern and eastern areas but drier spells in the north and northwest. Colder temperatures are expected initially, with the possibility of drier and settled conditions later as high pressure becomes more dominant.
