“Prince of Persia Remake Sparks Hope for Imminent Release”

-

It has been more than a year and a half since Ubisoft last publicly discussed the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. However, a recent development has sparked hope among fans that the game is getting ready for a release soon.

A user on the Prince of Persia subreddit noticed that a Prince of Persia domain name was updated on December 10. This domain is different from the one currently active on Ubisoft’s website, indicating that something is likely being updated behind the scenes in preparation for launch.

Speculations have been circulating that Ubisoft might surprise fans with a sudden release of the Sands of Time Remake. Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming has predicted a potential launch in January. Importantly, the Prince of Persia remake is expected to come out before the rumored release of the Assassins’ Creed Black Flag remake, which might happen towards the end of March 2026.

Ubisoft last spoke about the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake publicly in June 2024 during the Ubisoft Forward event, unveiling a new CG teaser trailer and setting a target release date for 2026.

In a blog post accompanying the announcement, it was mentioned that the game had entered full production at Ubisoft Montreal, with support from co-development studios in Toronto, Bucharest, Paris, and Pune. The goal is to maintain the essence of the original game while incorporating modern elements into combat, storytelling, and other aspects.

Although the remake was initially announced in 2020, it faced several delays, hinting at development challenges along the way. Despite this, there has been no gameplay footage released for the upcoming title yet.

If the speculated January release timeframe for Prince of Persia turns out to be accurate, gamers were expecting a glimpse of gameplay at The Game Awards 2025. However, no such trailer was revealed during the event, raising the possibility of a surprise January launch by Ubisoft.

The trend of shadow-dropping games has gained popularity recently, as seen with titles like the Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remaster and Hollow Knight Silksong receiving quick releases post-announcement. It is conceivable that Ubisoft is observing the success of these games and aiming to replicate it with its own classic franchises.

If Ubisoft indeed plans to stealth launch remakes of two beloved classics in rapid succession, the developer could be on track for one of its most successful years in decades.
