Morrisons has reduced the price of a 1L Baileys bottle to £11 in anticipation of the holiday season. This discount offers a savings of £3 compared to the regular price of £14. The promotion will be available until Sunday, November 2 in England and Wales, without requiring a loyalty card for purchase.
Currently, the same size Baileys bottle is priced at £13.98 in Asda, £22 (£14 with a Nectar card) in Sainsbury’s, and £22.50 (£14 with a Clubcard) in Tesco. Last year, Morrisons had lowered the price of Baileys to £8.50, albeit with a condition of spending £45 and being a Morrisons More member.
In the previous year, Sainsbury’s and Tesco had also offered Baileys for £10 to Nectar and Clubcard members. Baileys, an Irish cream liqueur, is crafted from whiskey, cream, and subtle hints of cocoa and vanilla.
On another note, Morrisons is planning to convert numerous corner shops into Morrisons-branded convenience stores. The supermarket aims to launch 250 new Morrisons Daily convenience stores next year by allowing corner shop owners to transition their shops into Morrisons franchises, especially focusing on areas where Morrisons currently has limited presence.
This strategic move represents a significant acceleration of Morrisons’ expansion plans, with approximately 160 convenience stores expected to open this year. A Morrisons spokesperson emphasized the company’s ambitious franchise model that facilitates quicker store additions in a capital-efficient manner.
Meanwhile, Morrisons is streamlining its operations by closing 103 stores, cafes, florists, and pharmacies this year. The supermarket has already shut down 17 Morrisons Daily convenience stores as part of a larger restructuring initiative. Additionally, more than 50 cafes, 13 florists, four pharmacies, and all 18 Market Kitchens are slated for closure. Furthermore, 35 meat counters and 35 fish counters are also expected to permanently close due to a comprehensive review indicating these services as not being cost-effective.
Rami Baitiéh, Chief Executive of Morrisons, acknowledged the impact of these changes on employees, emphasizing plans to collaborate with third parties to provide specialized services in stores where closures are imminent.
