An investment group that introduced numerous well-known sports figures to the world of Formula 1 by becoming part-owners of the Alpine team is reportedly considering selling its share. Otro Capital, along with other partners, acquired nearly a quarter of the Enstone-based team back in 2023.
Among the notable investors were Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who also own Wrexham AFC through their company, Maximum Effort Investments. The ownership group included star names like Rory McIlroy and Anthony Joshua, as well as football players Juan Mata and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Super Bowl champions Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
However, there are discussions within Otro Capital about potentially selling off their stake in the Alpine team, which was valued at about £685 million two years ago. The overall interest in F1 has been rising globally, leading to increased team valuations.
Reports indicate that Red Bull Racing rejected a significant offer for its junior team, Racing Bulls, and Haas turned down multiple lucrative offers this year. If Otro Capital decides to divest, they could see a substantial return on their initial investment of £165 million made in 2023. Nevertheless, talks regarding a potential sale are said to be in the early stages.
The future plans of Reynolds, McElhenney, and RedBird Capital Partners, who are part of the ownership consortium, remain uncertain. Alpine’s current performance in the constructors’ championship has been lackluster, with only 20 points earned this season, trailing behind Sauber.
Alpine is set to switch to Mercedes power units next season, aiming to improve their competitiveness. The team has yet to reveal its driver lineup for 2026, but Pierre Gasly has already secured a contract extension. Speculation surrounds Franco Colapinto’s future with the team, with rumors suggesting a decision could be made before the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix.
Sky has announced a price reduction for its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, offering savings and a wide range of live matches across various leagues. The network will broadcast over 200 live Premier League matches next season, a significant increase from previous years.
