Ricky Hatton’s family noted he appeared in good health during their recent visit before his passing, as disclosed in a Coroner’s Court session on Thursday. The preliminary cause of death was determined as ‘hanging’ during the inquest led by Alison Mutch at South Manchester’s Coroner’s Court in Stockport. A detailed inquest is scheduled for March 20, 2026.
Paul Speak, Hatton’s manager and close friend, discovered him unresponsive at his residence in Gee Cross, Hyde, just before their planned trip to Dubai. Greater Manchester Police confirmed Hatton’s demise, stating no suspicious circumstances were identified, and the case was referred to the coroner’s office.
According to testimonies at the hearing, Hatton was last seen looking well by his relatives a couple of days before he was found. Despite returning home afterward, he failed to attend a scheduled event the following day, details of which were not disclosed in court.
Following Hatton’s funeral at Manchester Cathedral, a procession paying tribute to the boxing legend passed various significant locations in Hyde and Manchester. The ceremony was attended by a host of celebrities, including Tyson Fury, Liam Gallagher, and Wayne Rooney. Eulogies, including one from Adam Smith, a Sky Sports boxing commentator, were delivered during the service, praising Hatton as a boxing icon and a hero of the working class.
The funeral procession culminated at the Etihad Stadium, home to Manchester City, before a private committal ceremony attended by family and close associates. In case of need, the Samaritans helpline at 116 123 is available for support 24/7, with additional contact options listed on their website.
