Oleksandr Usyk Extends Boxing Career by Two Years

-

Oleksandr Usyk has given Tyson Fury a significant boost by announcing his intention to continue boxing for another two years. Earlier this year, the 38-year-old outlined his retirement plan, stating he had two more fights left before calling it quits. In July, Usyk knocked out Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in front of over 90,000 fans, securing the undisputed heavyweight championship for the second time in his career.

Following his victory, Usyk plans to take the rest of the year off to spend time with his family before returning to the ring in 2026. Despite the mandatory defense of his WBO belt against Joseph Parker being delayed due to medical reasons, Usyk’s team successfully appealed for a 90-day extension.

In an interview with UNN, Usyk mentioned that he has resumed training with the goal of fighting next year and aiming for victory. Contrary to his previous statements, Usyk now plans to retire at the age of 41 and establish a sports academy for training future athletes.

Fury, who announced his retirement earlier this year after losses to Usyk, confirmed his comeback in July. With Fury preparing for a return in 2026, his promoter Frank Warren expressed optimism about the comeback. While speculation surrounds a potential fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua, Warren emphasized Fury’s focus on a rematch with Usyk.

Kieron Conway is scheduled to face George Liddard on October 17 at York Hall, Bethnal Green, with the main undercard starting at 7pm UK time. The headline event featuring Liddard is expected to commence around 10pm UK time. Viewers can watch the action live on DAZN, a popular streaming platform accessible through various devices with subscription options starting at £14.99 per month.
