Britney Spears has issued a response to allegations made by her former spouse Kevin Federline in his upcoming book, “You Thought You Knew.” Federline, aged 47, claims in the memoir that their sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, reported unsettling incidents involving their mother when they were younger.
According to Federline, the book recounts instances where the children woke up to find Spears silently watching them with a knife in hand before walking away without explanation. He also expressed concerns about Spears’ mental state, mentioning that it is increasingly unstable, and he fears for the well-being of their sons if things do not change.
Federline also raised apprehensions about the impact of the #FreeBritney movement, which played a role in ending Spears’ conservatorship in 2021, suggesting that it may have unintended negative consequences.
In response to the book excerpts, a representative for Spears, aged 43, conveyed that the focus should be on her children’s welfare amid the sensationalism surrounding the situation. It was pointed out that Spears had shared her personal journey in her own memoir, “The Woman in Me.”
Spears and Federline tied the knot in 2004 and divorced in 2007, with their two sons born during their marriage. The custody arrangements and Spears’ mental health struggles during and after their separation have been widely publicized.
In her 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” Spears accused Federline of causing emotional harm during their custody battle. Federline has not made any additional public statements in response to Spears’ comments. “You Thought You Knew” is scheduled for release on October 21.
The Mirror has requested comments from Britney’s representatives regarding this matter.
