A 20-year-old student, Josh Abbott-Littler, tragically passed away just a fortnight after he began showing symptoms resembling the flu. Josh had previously fought Hodgkin’s lymphoma with remarkable courage and optimism. He celebrated the end of his cancer treatment at The Christie cancer center in May 2024.
However, a year later, Josh was admitted to the hospital with flu-like symptoms and chest discomfort. Despite overcoming his initial battle with cancer, he received the devastating news of developing a rare and aggressive type of leukaemia linked to his prior treatment. Sadly, on June 26, he succumbed to sepsis caused by a bacterial infection.
Josh’s aunt, Rebecca Hughes, shared the shock of his initial lymphoma diagnosis in 2023. She recalled how Josh, initially healthy, suddenly developed symptoms leading to the diagnosis. After undergoing chemotherapy and proton beam therapy at The Christie, he received a clean bill of health, marking a significant milestone.
The unexpected turn of events occurred in June when Josh from Wigan experienced flu-like symptoms, prompting immediate medical attention. Subsequent tests revealed he had developed acute myeloid leukaemia due to his previous cancer treatments. Tragically, he passed away on June 26 due to sepsis resulting from a bacterial infection.
In honor of Josh, his family decided to raise funds for Young Lives vs Cancer by embarking on a charitable nine-hour walk from Wigan to Southport. The charity provides support to children battling cancer and their families, offering crucial assistance and care during difficult times.
Rebecca expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support from Young Lives vs Cancer during and after Josh’s passing. She highlighted the importance of keeping Josh’s memory alive through fundraising efforts, aiming to make a positive impact in his honor.
Describing Josh as an intelligent and kind-hearted individual, Rebecca shared his passion for music and involvement in chess club at university. She emphasized the family’s commitment to continuing their charitable initiatives in Josh’s memory, seeking solace and strength through positive actions.
