“DB Pridham Extends Contract with Rapid FC”

-

Delaney Baie (DB) Pridham, the inaugural Golden Boot recipient and Player of the Year in the Northern Super League, has signed an extension with Rapid FC until the end of the 2028 season. With 28 goals in the first two NSL seasons and national team appearances for Canada, Pridham is set to contribute in the upcoming season as Canada pursues qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Originally from Saratoga, Calif., Pridham, an alumna of Santa Clara University, has played for various clubs internationally, including IBV in Iceland and Kristianstads DFF and Linköpings FC in Sweden, but she takes pride in her time in Ottawa. Expressing excitement about the club’s vision and fan base growth, Pridham emphasized her contentment with the team and the city.

CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Pridham’s decision to stay, highlighting ongoing discussions and the alignment of her aspirations with the club’s vision. Although specific terms of the contract were undisclosed, Pridham’s commitment is a significant move for the club.

In addition to Pridham’s extension, Ottawa has also announced the appointment of Carmelina Moscato as the head coach for the upcoming season, succeeding Katrine Pederson. Moscato’s extensive coaching experience internationally underscores the league’s ability to attract top-tier talent.

Regarding player movement within the NSL, Gilbert and NSL president Christina Litz view talent flow as a natural aspect of the sport and emphasize proactive measures to retain players through favorable conditions and contracts. Players like Pridham find the NSL appealing due to increased playing time and development opportunities, crucial for those aspiring to national team selection.

The NSL’s recent acquisitions of prominent players like Sabrina D’Angelo, Shelina Zadorsky at AFC Toronto, and Marie-Yasmine (Mimi) Alidou at Montreal Roses underscore the league’s international appeal. With a focus on becoming a top-five global league, the NSL prioritizes retaining top talent, with a significant draw being the opportunity for Canadian players to compete domestically and maintain proximity to family and friends.

As the league evolves, player signings and contract renewals serve as key indicators of success, reflecting players’ commitment to advancing the NSL. The league’s emphasis on fostering a sense of home for players resonates with many, showcasing a personal dedication to the league’s growth and development.
