Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that the current Saudi Pro League season could mark the end of his illustrious football career. The 41-year-old, who joined Al-Nassr in December 2022 on a contract set to expire next June, expressed to Vogue magazine that he is unlikely to sign another deal.
“This is probably my final year in football, and I aim to leave behind a remarkable legacy,” said Ronaldo, the Portugal forward known for his impressive tally of 976 career goals. Recently, he tied the knot with his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez, adding, “I have my future plans all set out. I have numerous pursuits to occupy my time; singling out just one is challenging. As football’s exit might create a void, diversifying activities becomes essential.”
He also shared his intentions to have more fun, travel extensively, engage in padel matches, a sport he enjoys, and continue to cherish his hard-earned rewards, emphasizing the 25 years of dedication and sacrifice.
Ronaldo, in his 25th professional season in the 2026-27 SPL campaign, boasts an impressive track record that includes five Ballon d’Or accolades and five UEFA Champions League triumphs. His exceptional performance last season, netting 28 league goals, propelled Al-Nassr to clinch the Saudi Arabian championship in May, marking his first title since joining the club and the team’s first league victory since 2019.
Following his recent wedding, Ronaldo missed Al-Nassr’s opening title defense match, settling for a spectator role as the team secured a 3-0 victory against Al-Fateh. Coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged Ronaldo’s presence and support, expressing gratitude for his involvement.
Looking ahead, Ronaldo is anticipated to feature in the upcoming King’s Cup clash against Al-Diriyah on Tuesday, with Postecoglou emphasizing the significance of recovery amidst the tight schedule. Ronaldo’s contemplation on retirement coincided with Lionel Messi’s disclosure of potential retirement plans following his father’s passing, as Messi, aged 39, expressed uncertainty about his future in the sport.
