Elephant charges tourists in Botswana safari fracas

-

Tourists on a safari in Botswana had a frightening encounter when an elephant charged at their canoes, causing them to capsize. The group, comprising UK and US vacationers, was navigating through Okavango Delta when the female elephant, accompanied by her calves, reacted aggressively to their proximity.

The tour guides tried to create distance between the group and the elephants as the male elephant charged towards them in the shallow waters, ultimately flipping over their canoes with its trunk. Subsequently, the terrified tourists found themselves in the waters infested with crocodiles, as the guides fled the scene, according to reports from Mail Online.

Although the elephant momentarily left the group alone, it returned to target one of the women. Fortunately, she managed to survive by submerging herself in the water, evading the elephant’s pursuit. An ex-game ranger, who viewed footage of the incident, emphasized the group’s lucky escape, highlighting the potential fatal consequences of the elephant’s aggression.

A receptionist from a local canoe company confirmed that the affected visitors were from the UK and the US, noting the loss and damage of expensive camera equipment and phones during the chaotic incident. Reflecting on the unpredictability of wild animals, the receptionist expressed relief that no serious injuries occurred, underscoring the importance of caution during wildlife encounters.
