“Guilty Plea Leads to Discovery of Human Remains in Murder Case”

-

An investigation into the disappearance of a woman earlier this year has resulted in the discovery of human remains in a field, following a guilty plea by Karl Hutchings, 48, for the murder of Julie Buckley, 55. The body of Ms. Buckley had not been located when Hutchings admitted to the crime at Cambridge Crown Court.

Cambridgeshire Police announced the finding of human remains in a field in Wimblington after details of a potential burial site were provided by Hutchings’ defense team. Detectives acted on this information, leading to the discovery. The family of Julie Buckley has been informed about this development.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for the upcoming week, with the police maintaining a presence at the scene for the foreseeable future. Detective Chief Inspector Richard Stott mentioned that Julie’s family is receiving support from trained officers in light of this update.

Authorities believe that Hutchings murdered Ms. Buckley on January 30 and subsequently used her bank cards and sold her belongings. Hutchings, also residing in Christchurch, confessed to the murder in court. Ms. Buckley was last captured on CCTV at a supermarket on January 28, and concerns arose when she went missing. Blood found at her home later linked to her triggered investigations that led to Hutchings’ arrest.

DCI Stott expressed hope that Hutchings would disclose the location of Ms. Buckley’s body for a proper burial. Hutchings is set to be sentenced on October 24. Following his guilty plea, DCI Stott acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and the relief that Hutchings had taken responsibility for his actions, albeit belatedly, providing some closure to Julie’s family.
