An elderly woman in Japan was discovered to have kept her daughter’s body in a freezer at their home for a span of 20 years.
Keiko Mori, a 75-year-old resident of Ibaraki Prefecture in Tokyo’s northeast, surrendered to the police on Tuesday, September 23, with a family member, leading to her arrest. Following her husband’s recent passing, she had been residing alone and confessed to maintaining her daughter’s body in a freezer since 1975, as reported by local sources.
Upon arriving at her seemingly ordinary residence in Tokyo, investigators unearthed the long-concealed truth Mori had harbored. Inside the freezer, they found the body of a woman, clad only in a T-shirt and underwear, in an advanced state of decay.
Authorities stated that the body’s condition necessitated an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death from two decades prior. Subsequent to the discovery, the elderly woman was apprehended on suspicion of abandoning a body.
Mori revealed to officials that the overpowering stench of the corpse permeated the house, prompting her to acquire the freezer for storing her daughter’s remains. However, she did not disclose details regarding her daughter’s demise or any potential involvement in it.
Notably, Mori’s deceased daughter was not her sole child, although the exact number of offspring remains undisclosed, with indications suggesting she had multiple children.
