A vehicle owned by Erin Patterson, an Australian criminal convicted of murder, was briefly advertised for sale on Facebook before being removed. Patterson was recently sentenced to life in prison for killing three family members and attempting to poison another with a contaminated beef Wellington.
The red 2023 MG SUV belonging to Patterson was listed on Melbourne’s Facebook Marketplace for AUD18,500 (£9,037), highlighting its excellent condition and low mileage of 22,000km.
The advertisement was posted by Ali Prior, Patterson’s power of attorney, describing the car as well-maintained and efficient. Prior clarified that the sale was unrelated to Patterson’s criminal case and emphasized that it was a private listing. However, the ad was subsequently taken down.
During the trial, CCTV footage showed Patterson driving the MG to dispose of evidence related to the poisoning incident, leading to her conviction. She received a life sentence with a minimum non-parole period of 33 years for her heinous crimes.
Patterson was found guilty of murdering her in-laws, Don and Gail Patterson, and Gail’s sister, Heather Wilkinson, through the toxic beef Wellington. Despite maintaining her innocence and claiming the mushrooms were mistakenly added, she was handed multiple life sentences and a lengthy prison term for attempted murder.
Justice Christopher Beale condemned Patterson’s actions, highlighting the betrayal of trust and devastation caused to both families involved. He underscored the lasting impact on Patterson’s children, who lost their grandparents due to her actions.
In a victim impact statement, Ian Wilkinson extended forgiveness to Patterson but stressed the need for justice for the victims, expressing distress at her callous disregard for their lives. He questioned the motive behind Patterson’s actions, considering the goodwill shown to her by the victims over the years.
